Artist Statement
I paint with large brushes and bold, loose strokes, using vibrant colour to capture the energy, light and feeling of a place. I like to push myself and see what is possible with colour and brushwork, allowing the painting to develop intuitively rather than trying to control every detail. Working in an impressionistic style keeps me curious about what will happen on the canvas. The fast-drying nature of acrylic paint suits my approach, encouraging me to work quickly and capture the essence of the landscape rather than becoming caught up in unnecessary detail. I am guided by the idea that less is more. I want to suggest rather than define—to give the viewer enough to recognise a sense of place while leaving room for their own imagination and interpretation. For me, the joy of painting lies in finding that balance between what I see, what I feel and what I choose to leave unsaid.
