Reflections on the Australian Bush
This weathered gum tree stump has been crafted from my deeply felt expression of the native bush The form echoes a traditional water vessel. Coarse blackened and scarred by bushfire it holds a fluid river of amber resin. The translucent resin flows like liquid sunlight conforming to the native gum that once stood, capturing the dual nature of life-giving water and fire. It is a paradox of the Australian bush: a vessel of fluid life cradling the memory of flame. Out of ruin, this form emerges, celebrating a landscape that deeply endures, adapts, and flows onward.
